Lots of news today……But it is game day here in Kansas City, so I am getting ready for the match. So feel free to stop by early and say hi. I will be at the Black Jeep with the trailer, eating a little Bacon Explosion and Ribs. I might even have an adult beverage or two.
GOD I LOVE GAME DAY!

(May 5, 2009) – The Kansas City Wizards (3-3-1, 10 pts) host 1st place D.C. United (3-1-3, 12 pts) Wednesday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in a battle for the top spot in the East. A win tomorrow would push Kansas City ahead of D.C. United, Toronto FC and the Chicago Fire and into 1st place in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards currently sit in 4th place in the East after a bye last weekend. Kansas City went 3-1-1 in April, including a 2-0 record at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Wizards did not allow a goal at home last month in wins over San Jose and New York. The Wizards face D.C. United three times this season, including two games in Kansas City.
Wednesday’s contest features two of the last three MLS Player of the Week award winners. Kansas City striker Josh Wolff won the award in Week 5 after scoring two goals after the 75th minute to help the Wizards tie his former team Chicago 2-2 in dramatic fashion. D.C. United veteran Jaime Moreno won the Week 7 award for a pair of second-half goals that helped United defeat FC Dallas 2-1 after falling behind in the first half. Wolff now has six MLS Player of the Week honors to his name, while Moreno has seven. Moreno’s next appearance will mark his 300th career game in Major League Soccer.
The Wizards are 9-6-3 all-time at home against D.C. United, including a 2-0 win in the first-ever Wizards home match at CommunityAmerica Ballpark last season. Since bosses Curt Onalfo of Kansas City and Tom Soehn of D.C. United took over in 2007, the clubs are 2-2-1 against one another.
Following Wednesday’s contest, the Wizards return to action quickly with a match Saturday in Columbus against the 2008 MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew. The game will be broadcast live nationally on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports en Español, with kickoff at 6 p.m. CT. Columbus eliminated Kansas City from the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs, so the teams are very familiar with one another. Including the playoffs, Saturday’s combatants faced off five times in 2008. Coach’s Bar and Grill on 103rd street near Wornall in Kansas City, Mo will again host a watch party for Wizards fans.
