KC took out 10 man Seattle on an 80th minute Davy Arnaud blast – from outside the area (that’s three this young season). The 1-0 final was the second straight shutout for the Wizards but the first loss of the season for Seattle. Also the first ever goal given up by the Sounders. However that goal was not conceded by Keller as he was red-carded for a handball in the 29th when Herculez Gomez tried to chip him just out side the box. A backup’s backup, Ben Dragavon, gave up the goal.
Although KC had the man advantage for 60+ minutes it sure didn’t seem like it for most of the second half. But when Davy Arnaud buried Jewsbury’s pass, it took the wind out of the Sounders sails – and the crowd. KC then controlled possession until the end of the game. Until Davy scored our most prominent player was Claudio Lopez. He was the most dangerous and active on the field. He probably deserved at least 1 goal.
The backline was good again. Besler had a goal saving clearance on a crazy sequence. Lance Watson was flying all over the field. Kevin Hartman only had 2 saves but they were very good ones.
Player of the Game for me is Davy Arnaud. He’s the team leader and has shown when he gets space will take the shot. He just needs to do it more. Second player was Claudio Lopez. Third player was Kevin Hartman – he’s gotten a lot of help defensively but those saves were nice. POTG standings here.
We won there last year when it looked unlikely. Now KC takes on it’s second consecutive Conference leader and undefeated team. Chicago sits atop the East with 8 points in 4 games. KC are 2 points back. The Wizards are as healthy this week as they were last week. Chicago could be pretty healthy too this week. No suspensions for either team.
Wizards still need to have better control of the ball and also making off ball runs. I wouldn’t be shocked if we lost, I’d still be upset of course, but I just wonder if Besler and Watson can hold up again this week. Also hopefully Josh Wolff will show up. I’d almost prefer to have Roger start over Josh.
Weather looks to be mid-60’s and overcast for when the game starts.
