The Kansas City Wizards 2009 Home Opener is just five days away. The Wizards begin the 2009 Major League Soccer season this Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. CT against Toronto FC at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The first 5,000 fans into the stadium will receive water bottles and schedule magnets courtesy of Providence Medical Center. Single-game tickets for the Home Opener are still available, as are season ticket packages for 2009 that start as low as $180. WEEKLY TRAINING SCHEDULE, HIRSIG TO JOIN TEAM:
The Wizards enter the final week of training before Saturday’s Home Opener with Eastern-Conference foe Toronto FC. Argentine midfielder Santiago Hirsig is expected to join the club this week after receipt of his P-1 Visa. Should he receive his paperwork in time, he will be available for selection Saturday.

KCK MAYOR JOE REARDON PROCLAIMS “WIZARDS WEEK” AHEAD OF HOME OPENER:
Today, Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Joe Reardon proclaimed this week “Kansas City Wizards Week” in advance of Saturday’s Home Opener. Wizards Executive Vice President Greg Cotton, defender Matt Besler and goalkeeper Boris Pardo joined Reardon for a proclamation ceremony at the Joe Amayo Argentine Community Center in KCK. CRISTMAN UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY, OUT 10-12 WEEKS:
Wizards forward Adam Cristman underwent successful surgery Friday to repair a fracture of his 5th metatarsal. Cristman, who was acquired after the 2008 season from the New England Revolution, will be out 10-12 weeks with the injury. In other injury news, midfielder/forward Herculez Gomez is back to health and has taken part in each of the last three Wizards preseason matches. He will be available for selection by Head Coach Curt Onalfo this weekend against Toronto FC.
HARTMAN NEARS SAVES RECORD:
Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman is on the verge of setting another MLS career goalkeeping record. With just seven more saves, Hartman will surpass former Wizards standout Tony Meola for the all-time lead in career stops. Meola retired with 1136 saves, 507 of them in Wizards colors. Hartman enters the season with 1130 career saves and 227 for the Wizards.
Hartman has already cemented himself as one of the best ‘keeper in League history. The former LA Galaxy man ranks 1st all-time in wins (138), shutouts (77), games played in goal (303) and minutes played in goal (27,135). Hartman ranks 5th among all players in games played and 2nd in minutes played. If Hartman plays 15 or more games this season, he will rank 2nd all-time in games played among all players.
MASCOT DYNAMO THE DRAGON TO APPEAR AT NAIA TOURNAMENT:

What: Dynamo the Dragon will be hanging out in the Kid Zone area during the NAIA’s Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament. Dynamo will be playing games with the kids and handing out giveaway prizes during halftime.

Where: St. Stephen’s Academy, 1001 Bennington, Kansas City, MOWhat: To get the school excited about launching their new soccer program, Kerry Zavagnin will be visiting St. Stephen’s Academy to discuss working hard, setting goals, and what it is like to be a professional soccer player. Following, he will be showing some of the students some moves from his playing days.
