Kansas City Kings
The PASL will kick off an Arena Soccer United States Open Cup this year. The KC Kings will be hosting, from October 1 to December 31, local match ups which will feed into Regional play in January. After the Regional play is an elimination round in February followed by a team hosting the Semi Finals and the Final. Information, not a lot, found here.
The Kings and KCSoccerDome should also be announcing soon their pre-Wizards vs Galaxy event. Though no details yet, this should be a Soccer Legends(yeah, I don’t know what to call it) game that will take place at the SoccerDome. I think it will include former greats from KC, St. Louis teams.
Kansas City Brass
And since I mentioned St. Louis … the Brass will be there tomorrow for the their last road game of the season. It’s also the last game of the season for St. Louis. The Brass still have a shot at catching the Lions in the standings, but it will take a victory tomorrow night for that to have a chance of happening. The teams have played only one game this year, a 2-2 draw in KC on May 25th. Only two games this season against the interstate rivals due to weird Heartland Division scheduling.
Thunder Bay have already clinched a PDL play off spot from the Heartland Division. The other spot will go to either Colorado or Des Moines. If Des Moines beat Colorado tomorrow, then it will be up to Kansas City to decide which team gets the second berth. KC will host Colorado on Sunday. Either way, the Brass have two meaningful games to play.
Kansas City Wizards
Today the Wizards traded away an International roster spot for the rest of the 2008 season. Report here. The Wizards will get the spot back for the 2009 season but will also get FC Dallas’ (natural?) 4th round pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.
KC now has 6 International spots left (out of 8) and are only using four of them currently.
This looks to be a good move for the Wizards. An extra draft pick for a roster spot that was obviously not going to be used. Of note, KC also has one senior roster spot open.
