Nelson Pizarro was key on both of the Wizards goals in KC’s 2-1 win over sister club Atlas of Guadalajara.
The first goal was in the 37th minute off a pass from Jon Leathers that Pizarro put past the Atlas keeper. KC gave up a goal in the 45th off a header that Tyson Wahl cleared too late. Into added time in the second half on a quickly taken free kick at midfield Nelson Pizarro beat the defense and chased down the ball. He shot the ball across the goal but it was saved and deflected on to Micheal Kraus who saved the ball on the end line and then shot it across the goal mouth and hitting the net on the other side. Standing in the second row it looked like an impossible goal scored. Credit to Kraus on the shot. Very nice to see young guys hustling so hard at the end of a friendly.
Anyway, a very fun night. Some good play by the reserves. Zavagnin only played a half as McMahen came on for him at halftime. Kerry played Ok. As did McMahen. Pore didn’t impress yet again and he was captain for the second half. Pizarro did impress. Watson can’t be 100% yet, he’s not done a whole lot since coming back. Roger Espinoza looked so-so in midfield. The back line was good as was Kronberg. McKenzie looked way better than he did on Tuesday. Myers needs to do more if he’s going to go up the field as much as he did. Leathers was all over the field. I think he did well. And Kraus did well too- he got about 18 minutes.
Kansas City Brass
Brass didn’t fair so well tonight in Thunder Bay. The Chill beat them 4-1. KC did tie it after 29 minutes but within 10 minutes of the Brass goal Thunder Bay was up 3-1. After 13 games Thunder Bay lead second place Des Moines by 7 points. But some weird scheduling for them as they never even play against Colorado in the same division.
KC and Thunder Bay play again tomorrow.
