The Wizards trailed 2-0 to Carolina before embarking on a comeback that ended up a 4-2 Extra-Time victory. KC had a lot of chances in the first half. Especially one from Ryan Pore in the early moments. There were a few moments of tension from Carolina too though. But Carolina eventually got through in the 44th for a 1-0 halftime lead. This prompted two changes to the lineup at the half: Harrington for Myers and Trujillo for Marinelli. KC fell behing 2-0 on a Matthew Watson strike(very nice one too!) at the 58th. But eventually the substitution of Harrington paid off when his cross found Trujillo’s head in the 68th. Morsink and Lopez came on for Zavagnin and McMahen. Then Claudio Lopez converted a PK, in the 82nd, after a foul on Roger Espinoza(some might say it was a “soft” PK, I was a bit shocked it was called). KC had a LOT of opportunities after the game was 2-2. Carolina was gassed by this point of the game. So you could see at least a goal coming in Extra-Time. And it came off a Lopez pass to Trujillo who beat the keeper in the first half of Extra-Time. Then in the final minute of the game Ryan Pore converted a second KC penalty to make the game 4-2 and secure the victory.
There were some very good performances tonight by KC and some players just disappeared. Of course there were some that had ample opportunities (Ryan Pore) but pretty much came up empty. Good play from:Espinoza, Lopez, Trujillo, Harrington (MOTM?) and Kronberg. Myers did start off really well. Vanished: Marinelli, McMahen and Zavagnin. Everyone was was… Ok, but could have been better.
Nice stats: Second game in a row we have had at least 20 shots. This time there were 13 Shots On Goal. Yay. Now just don’t use extra time next time… and put more in the net 🙂
Next up for USOC are the Seattle Sounders. They beat Chivas USA 2-0 tonight. I think tomorrow we’ll find out the possible matchups for the Semi Finals (or Round 5).
