Ok, not wet t-shirt per se, but it will most likely be wet tonight for the Kansas City-Colorado Open Cup Play-in. Right now the forecast calls for scattered “strong” storms, high 80’s, but with humidity it will feel like lower 90’s, and winds of the 15mph variety. Anyway, it looks to be a wet one tonight. (which sucks ’cause I am bringing my 2 yr old).
Here’s the mlsnet preview of the game. Looks like the recent injuries to Marinelli and Victorine will keep them out of the starting lineup. Both are listed with slight groin injuries on the Injury Report but I am guessing they’ll be off that list for Saturday. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them on the bench tonight.
Last week Coach Onalfo said that this game was important. It is a money game. He also said that they’d try to field as much of a starting lineup as possible. I am guessing we’ll see Lopez up top but this time with Trujillo, based on his play from Saturday. I expect Davy, Jack, Kerry and Ryan Pore in the midfield. I think there will be changes on defense. We might see Jon Leathers and Aaron Hohlbein on the backline. It’s probably a tossup whether Hartman or Kronberg start in goal. I suppose we have a decent chance of seeing Kurt Morsink start in midfield – for Jack or Ryan – I think Coach wants Kerry back on the field for now to make his 4-4-2-flat work.
Remember in USOC play each team gets to make up to 4 substitutions. The winner of tonight’s game will enter the 3rd Round of the Open Cup with 7 other MLS teams and the 8 survivors of the first two rounds(USL-1, USL-2, PDL, etc).
KC played Colorado earlier this year and won 3-2 on a goal from Scott Sealy. Colorado are on top of the MLS West with a 5-0-5 record while KC are 6th in the East at 3-2-4.
All in all, it will be good to see KC playing again, even if the game is at Shawnee Mission North HS and not CAB.
