Kansas City Wizards
The Wizards will get back in action againt the New York Red Bulls after a week off. KC is currently on a two game losing streak. Falling to Toronto FC and Columbus. KC was at the top of the East and MLS after beating Chicago but have since fallen to 6th in the East and 8 points behind Columbus. A victory over RBNY could put KC in position to move back into 3rd place.
As of the May 14th injury report KC will only be without Lance Watson. Davy Arnaud and Jimmy Conrad are probable. Coach Onalfo has indicated that Davy will most likely be on the bench for this game. I think it’s a good bet that Jimmy will be starting. KC will though be without the service of Roger Espinoza for his redcard against Columbus. Edit: Jonathan Leathers will also be absent due to U-23 tournament in France.
New York’s injury list is a bit longer than KC’s. Echeverry, Roth, Stammler and Palacio are out for the weekend. NY may also be without Reyna, Wolyniec, Leitch and Ubiparipovic. Four of the players have over 250 minutes played. This could be good news for the Wizards as most injuries are in the midfield and KC will need any advantage they can get for controlling the ball.
When Davy Arnaud is fully healthy Coach Onalfo will have to decide what to do with arguably one of the best Wizards this season: Jack Jewsbury. Personally I think Jack could be used in the A-Mid role if Davy is to go back to right wing. However if Sealy nor Trujillo step up then Davy may find himself partnering with Claudio Lopez up top. At least for this weekend though Davy will not be starting so Coach can wait another week before deciding.
My lineup prediction: Hartman, Myers, Conrad, Wahl and Harrington. Zavagin, Marinelli, Jewsbury and Pore in midfield. Lopez and Sealy up top. Bench:Kronberg, Arnaud, Victorine, Colombano, Hohlbein, Morsink and Trujillo. Coach went short on defense last week.
Prediction is 1-1.
Edit: MLSNet Game Guide is now up. Referee is Jair Marrufo. Jon Leathers will not be available. KC has 2 wins and 6 draws in NY. NY has 8 wins. Game time weather is 66F, Stormy.
The KC Reserves will take on NY Reserves Sunday at 9AM.
Kansas City Brass
The Brass continue their season with two games against Colorado Rapids U-23. KC lost at home 0-1 to the Des Moines Menace this past Sunday. Colorado has already played two games: a win at Springfield and a loss at St. Louis. KC and Colorado will play on back to back days this Saturday and Sunday.
Ok, remember how I talked to Greg Cotton earlier this year and he mentioned a summer tournament/invitational for KC? And then Mr. Cotton also posted on the HIllcrest Blog about it. Well, I have a bit of an update. You all may have read about the MLS-FC Barcelona deal on mlsnet yesterday. Well, KC won’t be playing Barcelona, but by the next home game, June 14th vs Columbus, we should hear about the international friendlies KC will be playing in. There are in-KC and not-in-KC games in the works.
